The second Sunday in Advent requires the lighting of another candle.
“A candle loses none of its light by lighting another.”
One day I’ll have to tell you all my ASOIAF theory that involves Advent candles, but for now to music.
As it is the Second Sunday we need another version of the premiere Advent hymn “Veni Veni Emmanuel,” and I shall give laud to my favorite Canadian singer/songwriter Loreena McKennit for this. Her “Emmanuel” as it is simply called is one of her many “darker” Christmas carols from her A Midwinter Night’s Dream album, though this hymn itself leans on the edge of the macabre, LM has a version of “The Holly and the Ivy” that weaves an eerie beauty in opposition to the normally upbeat (and major key) version of the song, but for now, you shall have this…
PS. I really, really need to learn the Latin words to this song. I’m embarrassed.
