NaNoWriMo 2015

It’s that time of the year again: NaNoWriMo!  Now, I myself am always writing unless I’m in a really bad place where I can’t.  So NaNoWriMo doesn’t really change much for me in that area.  Most of my novel length stories are also far longer than 50k words.  My WIP is almost at 100k, Northern Lights is around 160k.  Even if I wrote 50k words in a month, it would still probably not be a completed novel.

So what am I going to do for NaNoWriMo this year?  I’m going to attempt to finish my current project: The Broken Rose.  I haven’t talked much about this due to the subject matter, but it is another Aeriseph fanfiction (which totally counts.  Check the NaNoWriMo website so linked), because that seems to be my raison d’etre right now.  It was inspired by several other fanfictions penned by various writers along with the first scene in Chapter 10 of NL.  It is not going to be a story everyone will be able to read, but I did not write it for the shock value.  I’ve had an idea for an original story, at least novella length, that deals with the same subject.  TBR takes it to an extreme, because I reasoned if I could write it to the extent the WIP requires, I’d be able to write about one such example in the original.

Since I am already near 100k words and don’t think this current work will be longer than Northern Lights (I didn’t expect it to be this long.  I honestly believe it would be around 10k words.  Oh, it is to  laugh…), I believe NaNoWriMo will see me to the conclusion.  I really hope it does…this story has been so draining both physically and emotionally.  I think the former may be due to more to life sucking my energy dry.

I will be trying to write the 1667 required words a day until I either reach 50k or complete the story.  Last year  my goal was to just write every day where the number of words didn’t matter.   I like to challenge myself though.  It’s one of the reasons I chose the particular subject matter.  That and it needs to be said regardless of how hard it is for me.  I don’t want to say I’m one of the fortunate ones, because luck shouldn’t have anything to do with whether or not you experience what I’m writing about (yes, I’m being vague for a a reason), but I do not want to insult or diminish those who have had to go through this type of thing.  I’ve done research as again this is not a topic you can really ask anyone about.  A few people have been gracious enough to provide me some information, but the internet is more than adequate to furnish me with what I refuse to ask of them.  I just found an article on WordPress today with a extensive, comprehensive, and fantastic list, and I have other sources of information to draw from, as well.  I’m hoping in both this fanficton and the subsequent original that I do this subject the justice it deserves.

What are your NaNoWriMo plans if you have any?  Will you be starting that novel that’s been in your head/notes?  Will you be working on a current project, but not be too concerned about finishing it?  Or will you be like me in trying to push to finish a WIP?  Let me know in the comments!

Until later, adieu.

  1. I have no NaNoWriMo plans, but I’ve always wanted to try. Work will not allow the time. I think you could write a 50 K word story if you focused. After all, you are The Shameful Narcissist!!!! 🙂

    1. Work is such a horrible drain on creativity. I’m hoping I can keep up with my insane demands! Last year it didn’t after the word count but this year I want to try. I hope you find some time to write soon even if it’s just a little some days!
